1th intervention of prescribed burn
On January 24th the first intervention of prescribed burn at Mondrago was held.
The day saw the involvement of the AIB (Anti-Fire Forestry) system of the Region with the presence of Paolo Battelli and Andrea Albertosi (Tuscany Region), Duccio Bacci and Antonielli Gianluca (Unione Comuni Valdarno Valdisieve), 1 AIB team of volunteers (Ampas Castelfranco di Sopra) and 1 team of 4 forest workers of the Union of Municipalities of the Pratomagno.
After a briefing to explain the organization of the construction site at 11:30 the fire test began, to evaluate the behavior of the fire. The session started at 11.40am and ended at 2.15pm, covering an area of 1.7 ha.
The ignition techniques adopted were first with parallel lines and upwind to the conclusion of a black strip at the top of the site, so as to secure the upstream part not burned. In continuing it was operated with lines and points in favor of slope and wind to increase the intensity, so as to achieve the objectives of the project. Though the weather conditions were not particularly favorable for the execution of the prescribed burn, a good reduction of the fuel was however obtained.
