Experimentation of grazing for the conservation of heatlands
In August, in collaboration with some local breeders, the experimentation of the use of pasture for the maintenance of some hedge areas in the context of the action C2 “Restoration and naturalistic management of heathlands invaded by shrubs” started. At the moment about 2 ha are interested in grazing goats and cows. These are ex-brushed shrubs during the autumn-winter 2017, in which the presence of Erica scoparia is very small and therefore will not be affected by future activities of cutting fagots and production of brooms. The aim of the intervention is to limit the receding of the shrubs through the pasture and therefore to guarantee the maintenance of the open areas suitable for the nesting of some species of birds. The experimentation phase will go on for a few months and if the results, as it already seems, will be positive, it will be extended to other areas too.
